Michael Cappy: Three Tips to Make an International Trip Easier

Michael Cappy has lived and worked all over the world during his career as a corporate leader, turnaround manager, and investor. He has lived and worked in Sweden, Italy, and the Caribbean, where he helped found the Master of Business Administration at St. Georges University in Jamaica and Grenada. Cappy has learned many tips and tricks to making his frequent international trips much easier. Here are three tricks he has learned over the years:

  • Snag a hotel business card. Sometimes your smartphone can fail you. This is why it’s a good idea to grab a business card at the hotel you’re staying at before you leave. This way you always have the address and phone number of the hotel so you can get back to it if you get lost—even if your phone dies and you can’t get directions.
  • Pay once for getting cash. US currency is usually accepted all over the world, but getting cash from an ATM can be a chore in another country and subject to hefty bank fees. Before you fly out, get a good amount of cash at an ATM at the airport to avoid paying these fees over and over again. Make sure you keep track of your cash, however.
  • Find a good travel credit card. Usually, as Michael Cappy knows, the best foreign exchange rates are found by using a credit card. However, many cards charge a pointless and frustrating foreign transaction fee. There are several cards out there that you can sign up for that don’t charge this fee.
Michael Cappy has been all over the world teaching and lecturing crowds about corporate transitions and has worked in many locations.
